AMC Long-range Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP)
MR Sussex Inlet is approved by the Australian Maritime College to assess for the Long-range Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP).
The LROCP course will enable participants to operate VHF, MF and HF marine radios for enclosed, inshore and international offshore cruising. Course participants will gain:
- the ability to use correct marine radio operating procedures, in particular those relating to distress, urgency and safety messages for VHF including DSC (Digital Selective Calling) and MF/HF (Medium Frequency and High Frequency);
- an understanding of the operation and controls of typical marine radio equipment; simple maintenance practices; and the regulations applicable to ship radio systems;
- a practical knowledge of GMDSS sub-systems and equipment which is appropriate to vessels operating in Australian waters on which a radio installation is not compulsory under international agreements. Specifically, MF/HF and VHF radio telephony equipment with digital selective calling (DSC) facilities, and emergency position indicating radio beacons of the 406 MHz;
- an ability to use MF/HF and VHF radio telephony and digital selective calling (DSC) operating procedures, particularly those relating to distress, urgency and safety;
- an understanding of simple maintenance practices required to keep marine radio equipment in good working order, including the repair of minor faults;
- an understanding of the regulations applicable to ship stations equipped with radio telephony and digital selective calling facilities;
- a basic knowledge of the Australian marine search and rescue system; and
- a practical knowledge of marine radio operations and equipment
Our course includes:
- A theory presentation of 6 hours (over two days) covering the content that is tested in the knowledge test; and
- The knowledge assessment required in order to obtain your certificate.
The cost of the training and assessment is $230.00 which includes the cost of the examination.
