Marine radio operators basic course
MR Sussex Inlet delivers a short course covering the basics of operating a marine radio.
This course involves a 2 hour theory and practical presentation covering:
- the correct radio channels to use;
- communication protocols when using a marine radio;
- distress and safety procedures, including how to access search and rescue facilities;
- how to initiate and respond to an emergency call;
- Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and the benefits of connecting a GPS to your radio;
- the various procedures for logging on and the benefits of Radio Club; and
- when and how to operate an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB).
The cost of the basic course is $50.00. Attendees receive a Certificate of Attendance but this course does not lead to or prepare you for any formal qualification.
