Radio club
MR Sussex Inlet coordinates a local Radio Club for members of our boating community.
Members of Radio Club receive a unique Marine Rescue-issued radio call sign for easy reference. Using this call sign:
- You save time on the radio when you are contacting Marine Rescue, such as when you Log On, Log Off, checking your marine radio is operating effectively, seeking a weather update or require vessel breakdown assistance.
- Information on your boat and vehicle and the personal contact details you have provided our unit as part of your membership will help us search for you in the event of an emergency.
Radio club is also a great way to show your support for our volunteers and the vital emergency services they provide on NSW waterways. Your annual club membership fee, makes an important contribution to our volunteer fundraising, as a not-for-profit community-based service. The annual membership fee also goes toward the maintenance and upkeep of our rescue vessels, radio base and the training of our volunteer crews.
Marine Rescue NSW provides Radio Club members with a range of exclusive benefits including:
- Automatic information loading on the MarineRescue App for smartphones. The relevant personal and boat details you have provided as part of your club membership will load automatically in the App once you enter your radio call sign (eg SI-123) and your vessel registration number. Just select “I’m a Radio Club Member” on the app’s front screen (see image below) and follow the prompts.
- Discounts at the Marine Rescue NSW e-shop. Radio Club members can purchase a range of great boating and safety products at exclusive discounts. You can find the e-shop on the main Marine Rescue NSW website here.
- Free e-magazine. Learn more about the life-saving work of Marine Rescue NSW’s 3,000 volunteers through our magazine, ‘Soundings’. Make sure we have your current email address on file to ensure that you receive your copy each quarter.
There are a number of methods to log on as a member of Radio Club. You can either contact MR Sussex Inlet via telephone or by radio on VHF channel 16 or 27 MHz channel 88 (in which case you will likely be asked by a radio operator to switch over to a working channel). Alternatively, if you have a smart phone you can download the App and follow the easy steps pictured below to log on.
